INNES [1797]

THE INNES FAMILY rank as one the FOUNDING FAMILIES OF PORTGORDON.  The Family commences in Port Gordon with ALEXANDER INNES (ca 1756-1842) who was appointed as the first Harbour Master in 1797.  All of the Port Gordon Inneses descend from this Alexander.  In addition, many of the other old, established Port Gordon Families can trace their descent - in the female line - from Alexander Innes and his wife Anne Reid.
