I N T R O D U C T I O N This new and extensive section of Port Gordon History Online is devoted to the genealogy of the Port Gordon Families (that is to say all families the 'historic' families within the community). More recent arrivals in the village are not included. The links on the left represent all of the 'historic' families in the village from the time of the foundation in 1797 or shortly afterwards. As can be seen from this list tee-names were extensively used. The pedigrees may be downloaded or copied without restriction. However, as a matter of courtesy and in order to further research into the Port Gordon Families it would be helpful if users downloading them would email us on genealogy@portgordon.org Please note that whilst we are happy for anyone to download copies of these genealogies and are always delighted to hear from anyone with Port Gordon ancestry, we do not undertake genealogical research on behalf of others. N O T E S O N C O M P I L A T I O N It has been compiled using Old Parish Registers for the Parish of Rathven and the Quod Sacra Parish of Enzie as well as for the (including those for the Roman Catholic Churches at Preshome and St Ninian's, Tynet and the Episcopal Church at Arradoul.
Extensive
use has been made of the
Statutory Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths (for the Parish of
Enzie) from 1855; newspaper and press reports of events at the time and
the Hendry Account Book (HAB), Port Gordon’s most important nineteenth
century source. Where it has not been possible to obtain a precise date of birth, an estimation has been taken from the date of death and age (when possible) from either Death Certificates or Monumental Inscriptions (for the cemeteries at Rathven, Buckie (New), Bellie and St Ninian's, Tynet as well as others further a field). These are generally reliable within a two year margin or error. The material on these pages has been cross-referenced and double-checked. Only factual and verified data is included. However, there will, inevitably, be errors and omissions. If you identify any, please get in touch. No living persons are included in order to conform to the Data Protection Act. U P D A T E S Please note: this part of the website is updated annually, in January of each year only. However the next update will take place in Summer 2006.
